Is everything going exactly how you planned? If it is, please respond with how you did that, because the overwhelming majority of us let life get in the way at times.
Today's song of the day is Outkast's "Da Art of Storytellin' Part 1" from their album "Aquemini." The song’s second verse is a reflection on the diverging paths of Andre 3000 and a childhood friend named Sasha Thumper, with Andre's life turning out successful, but Sasha's was not so much . In the song, Andre raps about asking Sasha what she wanted to be when she grew up, to which she responds "alive." Sasha's response - "alive" - is a chilling reminder of the struggles and hardships that many of us face in life.
This song serves as a reminder that life happens through us, not to us. We are all responsible for how we respond to the challenges that come our way. In Sasha's case, she was unable to overcome the struggles she faced and ultimately paid the price with her life. For Andre, he was able to overcome adversity and find success. The lyrics highlight the importance of striving for success and making the most out of life, despite the challenges that may come our way. We should never take our time on this earth for granted, and should always aim to make the most out of the opportunities that come our way.
“All of the bullshit we on our back staring at the stars above (aw man)
Talking bout what we gonna be when we grow up
I said what you wanna be, she said, "Alive"
It made me think for a minute, then looked in her eyes
I coulda died, time went on, I got grown
Rhyme got strong, mind got blown, I came back home
To find lil' Sasha was gone
Her mama said she with a nigga that be treating her wrong
I kept on singing my song and hoping at a show
That I would one day see her standing in the front row
But two weeks later she got found in the back of a school
With a needle in her arm, baby two months due, Sasha Thumper”
